starnetwork.gif (14434 bytes)A computer network may be defined as simply as "two or more computers connected by communication media to allow the sharing of resources and information."  Yet, the application of computer networking opens us up to so much more.  Networking is communication and communication is what makes the world a society.  We will examine networking in four main areas: physical connections, data transfer (packets and protocols), security, and the Internet. The figure shown here depicts a physical star configuration.  If any of the numbered computers go down, all others can still comunicate.  However, if the device at the center (the hub) ceases to function, none of the computers can comunicate.  Other configurations include the ring and bus configurations.

There are numerous factors to consider in developing a network topology that is right for you.  Let us sit down with you and discuss some of the options.  We can help you to find the perfect match between what you need, what you would like to spend, and what is available. Click HERE for help.
